Patrick Nowell-Smith was born in Liverpool, England. At the age of nine he began his career as a cartoonist for the Liverpool Echo, before becoming a freelance writer. He has written more than twenty books for children and young adults, including ten series of books based on the adventures of Harry Hotspur, Harry's sister, Harry's dwarves, Harry's dogs, Harry's plane, Harry's car and Harry's dogs. These were illustrated by Jan Wilson and reproduced by Random House in England
